We recently purchased a wonderful vintage 1915-1920's era sock knitting machine and will soon be making socks of different lengths, colors, and fibers here in our Virginia studio. We are currently sourcing local wool and alpaca yarn sources to use in our socks. While we are learning about all of the moving parts, needles, gears and mechanisms, we will be offering 'tester' socks at a reduced cost. In the meantime, we are offering Made in the USA socks created by Cestari in Churchville, VA. They raise and shear their own sheep, then process the fleece into yarns and the entire process happens here in Virginia. Cestari recently stopped making socks to focus on making yarn for hand knitters, and along with two of their sock machines, we purchased some ready made stock of socks and stockings. The above pictured cotton wool socks and stockings are made by Cestari. Some of the tall stockings were intended for Colonial era re-enactment (they supplied stockings to Colonial Williamsburg), others shown here are perfect for everyday wear. You may wish to use these with your medieval/SCA, Renaissance, pirate, Colonial or Revolutionary War era, or even Victorian/steampunk costumes. Not just for costumes, these can also be used for daily wear. Please note: All of these socks and stockings feature a turned heel, and are not tube socks. |
