![]() Linen Romantic Nightgown Photos by Nina Rizzo. Copyright 2007. This romantic nightgown shown above is made from handkerchief weight 100% linen. The double layered empire waisted bodice has drawstring ties at the neckline and underbust to adjust for a comfortable fit. There is a hidden hook and eye at the center front opening for extra security and modesty. The bell shaped sleeves button along the top opening with small vintage Victorian mother of pearl buttons - the sleeves can be worn buttoned as shown, or unbuttoned for a sleeveless look with the sleeves draping gracefully at the sides. The skirt is a full circle. This handkerchief linen is translucent and not suited to modest public use without a slip, robe or overgown. The currently available gown is made from a slightly heavier weight 51% linen/49% cotton and measures 58" in length from center front of person's neck at clavicle to the hem of the gown. This would be about floor length for someone 5'10" tall with no shoes on. Maximum full bust is 52.5", maximum underbust 46" - as mentioned above, this gown can be drawn in to fit smaller measurements also. We would be happy to shorten this gown after purchase and before shipping to your measurement specification at no additional charge - but please allow an extra 24 hours prior to shipping so that we may re-hem it for you. If you would like this style gown made in a more opaque material, in the handkerchief weight 100% linen shown above, in another size, length or color, please see our custom orders page then contact us for a price estimate. In the handkerchief weight 100% linen, this gown would cost $265 + shipping. 51% Linen/49% Cotton Romantic Nightgown Price: $235.00Available now: 1![]() Historic Gowns and Clothing |

This
neo
Victorian style outfit is based on a historic
reference from 1874 -1877 and was inspired by the character Mina Harker
from the Victorian classic "Dracula". The majority of this
outfit is made from a shot garnet colored synthetic taffeta that
'whispers' and shimmers from ruby to nearly black. The center front and center back bodice panels are made from crush resistant black velvet. The bodice buttons up the front with eight antiqued gold tone buttons with an "Art Nouveau" style frame surrounding the shiny black plastic center - this button is viewable very close up on our Buttons for Sale page. The bodice is fully lined with matte black synthetic satin, but is not boned. The unlined matching taffeta skirt has a tie at the waist for a bit of flexibility in fit at the waistline, and an arrangement of tapes that gather the skirt at the back and pull it in at the sides. There are hook and eyes on the tapes and skirt that allow the train (shown above) to be pulled up for walking (shown to the left). The final touch to this modern Victorian style ensemble is a black organza ruffled vintage scarf and a brooch with a faux red gemstone - both of these are included with this purchase. The ensemble shown here was photographed with only a small ruffled bustle underneath - it could be worn without, or with an even larger bustle for a more historic look. While not strictly necessary to wear this outfit, a corset, petticoat, and bustle are recommended for greater historical accuracy in garment layering and movement - but these are not included with the outfit. The bodice will fit between a 36"-38" bust, 29"-31" waist, 43" hip with small bustle. When measuring yourself to determine if this will fit, please measure over any garments you will be wearing with this outfit (i.e. corset, chemise, corset cover, etc.). The skirt measures 42" from waist to hemline at the center front with a train that can be worn up for walking or down for a more dramatic look. From center front base of neck to hemline on this mannequin measures 56". reference from 1874 -1877 and was inspired by the contributions to the

her an ideal Steampunk heroine! The majority of this outfit is made from a shot brown synthetic taffeta that 'whispers' and shimmers from bronze to nearly black. is accurate to the time period, the fabrics we used are not.
Our 1918 tea gown is made from a center front pleated panel
in white Ming brocade, the body is an optic white shimmering crinkle
fabric. There is braid trimming the join between the skirt
and the pleated panel, and ruffled organza ribbon and braid decorating
the neckline and sleeve ends. The shoulder drape is white
crystal organza. The empire waistline is decorated with a
silver embroidered and beaded ribbon and two antiqued silver tone metal
findings. Side front closure is a series of hidden snaps and
hook and eyes. The skirt is lined in matching white satin
acetate, the bodice and sleeves are lined with a soft white 100% cotton

| We
have a new volunteer trainee who is enthusiastic about
costuming. She wanted to learn and explore some different
skills to see if costuming would be a good match for her as a career
choice in the future. One of the projects we have worked on together so far is this Mrs. Claus ensemble that I had designed and wanted to create for a *very* long time. Apparently, while there are references to Mrs. Claus as far back as the mid to late 1800’s, she did not become a very visible part of the holiday mythos until the 1960’s. This was a time of great change for women in general, and Mrs. Claus represented a nostalgic view of the supportive wife and home-maker. Thus, my take on Mrs. Claus was created from vintage 1950’s era patterns, a time that would have been fondly remembered by some from the 1960's and a time of stereotypical domestic bliss. The pinafore apron is embroidered with a holly motif on one of the two pockets and is adjustable via buttons and buttonholes at the back. The apron shoulder straps can cross in the back (pictured), or can come straight down to button at the waist. The skirt is made from unlined hunter green 100% wool flannel and features a side zipper and drawstrings at the waist to allow for some variability in sizes. The skirt is 40.5 “ long and the maximum waist is 42.5”. The 100% cotton shirt is printed all over with little sprigs of holly and features red drawstrings at the wrist so the sleeves can be adjusted higher for making cookies. There are red buttons down the front of the blouse. The mannequin bustline is 45” in circumference. Also available in custom sizes for $295.00. One of our Capes or Wraps here would go well with this outfit. |

white front together at the back of the dress under the red magnolia
print, and the other set of ties holds the dress closed at the front.

women's version of our crinkle textured black 100% cotton Reaper robe
could be used as a chemise, undergown, or layered with other costume
pieces to create a variety of characters. It differs from the
regular Reaper robe in that it has pleats at the shoulders and a black
veil attached to the inside of the hood that can be tucked in at the
front of the neck to hide the face and neck. The veil could
also be folded back inside the hood if you prefer to wear a mask or
have your face showing. The sleeve and garment hemlines have
been distressed and shredded. Shown here with a textured silk
waist
piece (93% Silk/ 7% Lycra - sold separately), this gown/robe could also
